A lot of us are just getting ready for the holidays.
Whether it’s Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or anything else you celebrate this month, everyone knows it’s the heartwarming time of the year.
But it also means that it’s the perfect time to create explainer videos.
It’s when consumers want to shop around, going out to vacation with families and friends, or just want to know what’s out there for them to be educated.
This is your opportunity to create short, fun videos to grab their attention. And there is no better way to do this than with an explainer.
To create one that really connects with your viewers, here are some pointers to consider.
Create a wonderful Story
Everyone could use a good story.
Ever noticed why your favourite TV channel broadcasts popular movies like The Grinch and The Christmas Carol? These stories make us feel connected. They make us feel warm and fuzzy.
I’ve written about using stories before, but the reason why I bring it up here is because by telling a good story - one that gets you excited because it feels like it’s the holidays already - it gives a lasting, feel-good impression on an audience. In a time where we want to give and receive, and spend more time together, nothing makes us more connected than a good story.
Make a fantastic plot - even better with characters that are appropriate to the context (if it’s a Christmas video, they could include elves, reindeers, or just a child waiting for presents).
Just remember that, by creating an animated explainer for the holidays, approach it like a holiday storyteller. Something that your viewers could resonate with.
Once you’ve gotten your story, make the video.
Promote (and share)
Why not? Maybe you have a product or service that is proven valuable to your existing customers and clients. If this is something that you found more and more people could benefit from, then it’s time to share your holiday video as much as possible.
It may seem weird, but this is during the time when people are most open to spending (or even donating to a cause of their choice). That is why most of us think in terms of giving and receiving (or in general, sharing). Part of your job is to promote your offerings that would actually benefit your viewers and prospects.
This doesn’t mean it only works for products or services. Say you deeply care about a certain topic, you could help increase your audience’s awareness of it through an explainer video, such as this one created by Don earlier this year.
Also include a CTA. This CTA has to be something that encourages sharing between people. Your goal might be to increase brand awareness, or improve specific metrics. But to make it happen, the one thing that must be done is to have a clear CTA that encourages sharing. If you want to drive more traffic to your site, perhaps one way to go is embed the newly created holiday explainer on the home page. Maybe you could send links through tweeting or email. Do everything it takes to get your video across.
